What Is the Adoption System and How Does It Work?
The adoption system is an innovative digital-physical tool that allows users to “adopt” a specific element of public space – such as a facade panel, a seat in an arena, an organ pipe, a stained-glass window, a stone feature in a historic church, or even an animal in a zoo or shelter.
By adopting an element, the donor contributes financially to its restoration or upkeep and receives visible proof of support:
- A personalized tag with their name or dedication
- A digital certificate of adoption
- A listing in the online donor registry
The system operates through a web interface where donors choose an item, make a payment, and personalize their tag. An admin panel enables easy management of the process – from certificate generation and donation tracking to issuing tax receipts and managing donor communication.
Real-World Examples: Horácká Arena in Jihlava & St. James Church in Brno
Horácká Arena – Adopt a Facade Panel
At the opening of the new multifunctional Horácká Arena in Jihlava, the adoption system was deployed at large scale. Members of the public can symbolically adopt one of over a thousand facade panels.
The process is entirely online at https://fasada.hma.cz, where users select a specific panel from an interactive map, add a name or dedication (to be engraved on a tag), make payment based on size and placement (ranging from CZK 1,000 to tens of thousands), and receive a digital certificate. Once the campaign ends, all tags will be installed on-site and a printed book of donors will be placed in the building.
St. James Church in Brno – Restoring Glass and Stonework
In the heart of Brno, the Gothic church of St. James is running an adoption campaign to fund the restoration of its unique stained glass windows, rosettes, and stone features. The project operates at jakubovaokna.cz using our platform, allowing donors to select specific items (e.g. CZK 500 for a small pane, CZK 20,000 for a large rosette), personalize their donation (with an option for anonymity), and access transparent donation records – both online and in physical form inside the church. In total, over 9,000 individual panes and many valuable architectural elements are to be restored. Thanks to the adoption system, everyone can contribute – simply and with clear impact.
